Music & Drama
All children enjoy lessons from a specialist teacher in which they have opportunities to sing, play instruments and to appreciate music. From the age of seven, children can begin to take instrumental tuition in the recorder and piano and as they become older, they have the opportunity to take lessons in chanter, clarinet, clarsach, drums, flute, violin and voice/singing. Every year, children are presented for the Royal School of Music examinations and achieve notable success. They are also given frequent opportunities to perform in public. The School Choir has regularly won awards and praise for its performances in competitions and is regularly invited to perform at events throughout East Lothian and beyond,
Every child participates in our annual carol service at St Mary’s Church, Haddington and in whole school music and drama productions towards the end of the school session.
“At The Compass our son’s love of music was encouraged from an early age and it has been such a joy for us to see his talents flourish. Initially a self-conscious child, the many opportunities he was given to perform has resulted in his becoming a very confident individual, with his music, drama and beyond.”
